Euroboozer partners with Giesinger Bräu, Munich’s first official new brewery in 300 years

We’ve partnered with Giesinger Bräu, Munich’s seventh brewery, to bring over a selection of beers to the UK on- and off-trade.

We’ve partnered with Giesinger Bräu, Munich’s seventh brewery, to bring over a selection of beers to the UK on- and off-trade.
The first successful Munich brewery to launch in 300 years, Giesinger Bräu began life as a garage brewing project, set up by brewer Steffen Marx. Since its formal inception in 2008, Giesinger Bräu has become the second largest private brewery in Munich.

Today Giesiner Bräu operates from a large €20m brewery on the northern fringes of Munich, producing around 40,000 hectolitres each year. Much of the brewery’s support comes from crowdfunding, with 9,000 small investors having contributed €10m to help pay for the new brewery and its employees, making Giesinger Bräu the biggest crowd funders in Germany in all food and drink.

Considering the quality of the beers produced, it’s hardly surprising that the brewery has garnered such a sprawling community of fans.

At Giesinger, Steffen produces beer which focuses on traditional craft production. All Giesinger beers are unfiltered
with natural ingredients preserved in the production process. Even the water is sourced from a well which cost the brewery €1m, plunging 152 metres into the ground to extract pure Munich water. This means the beer produced is true Münchener Bier, a term protected under EU Law since 1998.

This also makes Giesinger Bräu theoretically entitled to the benefits that accrue Munich’s ‘Big Six’ beermakers such as Augustiner, Lowenbrau, and Spaten for instance.

In partnership with Giesinger Bräu, we will be importing an ever-changing roster of beers in either 0.5l or 0.33l bottles and 30L kegs, with the first shipment to include the flagship Erhellung (an unfiltered pale lager), Münchner Hell, Märzen, Munique, Schankbier and Summer Ale.

    About the beers

Giesinger Erhellung, 5.3%: Giesinger Bräu’s flagship beer, Erhellung is an unfiltered pale lager made with
hops from Hallertau and Czechia, malt from Albert Müller and Weyermann, and yeast from Weihenstephan. Brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516, this beer is bottom-fermented, has fresh hop aromas, a full-bodied initial taste and smooth mouthfeel.

Giesinger Märzen, 5.7%: Giesinger’s Märzenbier is available all year, with a full-body and strong initial taste
backed up by slight hop bitterness and gorgeous nutty and caramel aromas.

Giesinger Munique, 6.6%: After saving 1845 different hop breeding lines from being destroyed, which had been
experimentally grown, Giesinger used the hops to brew a wonderfully light bock. Unsurprisingly the stocks quickly disappeared, so the brewery worked with the hop breeder to create a new UNIQUE hop variety, which has been used for the Munique beer ever since.

Giesinger Schankbier, 3.8%: A beer style that’s less common nowadays, Giesinger’s Schankbier is a
bottom-fermented golden yellow beer with supremely refreshing pronounced hop bitterness.

Giesinger Münchner Hell, 4.8%: The beer from which it all began. First toyed with in a garage during 2006,
this beer is an original Munich-style Hell with bold bread and butter notes and an eminently refreshing finish.

Giesinger Summer Ale, 3.6%: Intentionally brewed as a lighter beer, Giesinger’s Summer Ale is completely
open-fermented with fruity citrus and honey melon aromas, a fairly sweet taste and a pleasantly slim body with a fine bitter finish.

On the new partnership with Giesinger Bräu, Martyn Railton, MD of Euroboozer said: "We’ve admired Giesinger’s approach to Bavarian brewing for a long time, and have been fans of the beers for a while now, so we’re really excited to be working exclusively with the brewery to bring more of their outstanding beer to the UK. I visited the brewery and their brewpub back in September 2022 and was blown away not only by the quality of their beers but how the brewery is the perfect marriage between authentic brewing techniques and an image which befits their age. We’re very proud to be working with the seventh official Munich brewery.”

Steffen Marx, owner of Giesinger Bräu added, “following the success of the beers in Munich and across Germany, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Euroboozer to help expand our customer base.”
