    Winter Beer Cocktails

    By Jonathan Hatchman

    · Christmas,Beer Cocktails,Stiegl

Following the sucess of our "Last of the Summer Beer Cocktails" we've teamed up with Jonathan Hatchman again to create some stunning Winter Warmers with some of our favourite beers.

Of course we couldn't resist another Stiegl Grapefruit Radler cocktail, then there's a host of Mikkeller festive aperitifs.

Stiegl Grapefruit Radler (2% ABV) is refreshing, joyously juicy and the ultimate thirst-quencher. Orange in colour, naturally cloudy and made with real grapefruit juice to provide that terrifically tangy taste. Stiegl Radler lends itself especially well to beer cocktails so we've shared a host of recipes previously and this new winter warmer from Jonathan Hatchman.

Mikkeller Side Eyes (4.5% ABV) A crisp and refreshing pale ale which has notes of citrus, mandarin and tropical fruits. Dive in!

Mikkeller Bean Geek Session Porter (5.6% ABV) Session Porter brewed with Chocolate from Bean Geeks Chocolate.
Aroma of coffee, caramel and toffee. Palate is a blend of roasted malt, soft bitterness and chocolate.
Finishes dry and lightly bitter. Saaz and Centennial Hops.
Mikkeller Hallo Ich Bin Raspberry (3.7% ABV) is a Berliner-style weisse beer brewed with raspberries. It pours an eye-catching ruby red with big raspberry jam aromas and contrasting tart and sweet dominating the flavour. See below for the Glühed.

Ingredients (Serves 2-3 depending on the size of your mugs)

660ml Mikkeller Side Eye Pale Ale (Available from Sainsbury's and more...)
    3-4 Tbsp honey, to taste
    1 cinnamon stick
    40g fresh ginger, sliced
    4 cloves
    4 cardamom pods, crushed
Peel of one clementine or satsuma
    Pinch of salt
    1 star anise
    ¼ nutmeg, grated

    Method

    • Add all ingredients to a sauce pan and bring to a slow boil over low heat, regularly stirring to dissolve the honey.
    • As soon as the beer comes to the boil, remove pan from the heat and allow the ingredients to infuse for at least 10 minutes.
    • Strain well and reheat gently before serving.
    • Garnish with a twist of orange rind.

    Radler-Sage Gin Smash

    broken image

Ingredients (Serves 2-3 depending on the size of your mugs)

100ml Stiegl Radler Grapefruit beer (Avaiable from Brew Republic, Beer 52 and many more!)

    50ml Herno gin

50ml unsweetened cranberry juice (alternatively smash 15g fresh cranberries with 35ml juice)

    1 tbsp sage syrup*

    Dried grapefruit wheel, to garnish

    Method

    • To make the sage syrup, add 100g granulated sugar, 120ml cold water, and 15g chopped sage leaves to a sauce pan. Bring to the boil, whisk until sugar dissolves, reduce heat, and simmer for five minutes. Allow the syrup to cool completely before straining into a small bottle or jar. Syrup will last for a week in the fridge.
    • Add the gin, cranberry juice, and sage to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously for approx. 30 seconds.
    • Strain into a glass and top with the beer. Mix gentle to combine. Garnish with the dried grapefruit wheel or a sage leaf.

    Espresso Beer-Tini

Ingredients (Serves 2-3 depending on the size of your mugs)

Mikkeller Bean Geek Session Porter (Available from Noble Green Wines)

    35ml spiced rum

    15ml Conker Coffee Liqueur

2 tsp sugar syrup or vanilla syrup

    Coffee beans, to garnish

    Method

    • Add the rum, coffee liqueur and syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for approx. 30 seconds and strain into a mixing glass.
    • Add approx. 100ml of the beer and mix with a bar spoon (this will create a nice foam, which will both look great and add texture).
    • Slowly pour into a chilled martini or coupe glass and garnish with coffee beans.
